SMS opt-in

Speakeazy sends a one-time verification code to a venue's phone number, entered on our claim form by the owner or manager claiming that venue, so that only someone at the business can claim its listing. This page shows the form's consent step exactly as it appears — the number field and the checkbox beside it — and describes the message, how consent is given, and how to stop it.

What the messages are

Speakeazy sends one kind of message on this campaign: a 6-digit code that verifies whoever is claiming a bar or restaurant listing can answer that business's own phone. The code expires in 10 minutes.

These are transactional messages only. No marketing or promotional message is ever sent on this campaign, and a message goes out only when someone asks for a code — there is no recurring or scheduled send.

Who receives them

The person claiming the venue enters its phone number on the form, in the field below, immediately above the consent checkbox. That number is the opt-in: no code is sent to any number that was not typed in and agreed to there.

We also check it. The number must match the one publicly listed for that business, which we hold from Google Places; if it does not, the request is refused and nothing is sent. So the code can only ever reach the business being claimed, and only when someone has just asked for it at that number.

An owner or manager whose venue has no listed number can still submit; those claims go to a human review queue and no message is sent.

How consent is given

An owner or manager of the business goes to business.speakeazysocial.com/claim, searches for their venue and selects it, enters the venue's phone number, then reads the disclosure below and ticks the box beside it. The box starts empty, it is required, and it agrees to nothing but the verification code — it is not bundled with accepting our terms.

Consent is checked on the server as well as in the browser. A submission that arrives without it is rejected and no message is sent.

Enter the number publicly listed for this business — that is where the code goes. We check it against the listing before sending anything, so a number that is not theirs gets no message.

We'll send a 6-digit code to Fiesta Mexican Restaurant's publicly listed phone number, and it expires in 10 minutes. Message frequency varies — we only send a code when you ask for one. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. We never send marketing messages to this number. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

How to stop them

Reply STOP to any message to block all further messages to that number. Reply HELP for support contact details. You can also email support@speakeazysocial.com and we will remove the number by hand.
